POSITION:

Teacher Assigned A – Central Based (Various Field Offices)

Early Childhood Instructional Coordinators – Summer 2024

10-15 positions contingent on budgetary and programmatic approval

 

LOCATION:

Citywide

 

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

Must be employed by the Division of Early Childhood Education (DECE) as an Instructional Coordinators (Teacher Assigned A) during 2023-2024 school year.

 

SELECTION CRITERIA:

  • Currently employed by the DECE
  • Availability and ability to commit during summer project timeframe of early July through August (25-35 hours per week).  
  • Willingness and ability to travel to assignments across the city (preference will be given to applicants who are flexible and available to travel across citywide districts)
  • Interest in and commitment to helping Early Childhood sites self-assess their own program’s preparedness to receive children and families, at all times, specifically for the start of the upcoming school year. 
  • Experience with entering data into online forms required.

 

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

To support our Early Childhood sites feel fully equipped to have a safe and successful school year, staff from the DECE and partner divisions will be visiting all Early Childhood locations to complete a program walkthrough. These program walkthrough visits has been revised and strengthened to ensure we are empowering NYCEECs program leadership to self-assess their own program’s preparedness to receive children and their families, at all times, and specifically for the start of the upcoming school year. 

 

The program walkthroughs provide an exciting opportunity for you to apply your knowledge of Early Childhood sites to make sure our students feel safe and have a successful school year!  You may also get a first look at sites you will be supporting during the school year.

 

Key topics covered in the walkthrough checklist include, but are not limited to:

  • Basic site information, such as location and number of classrooms
  • Building safety
  • Classroom Readiness (curriculum, furniture, staffing, and meal plans in place)

 

Duties of this position include:

  • Attending trainings on Program Walkthroughs
  • Completing program walkthroughs at a range of NYC Early Education Centers (NYCEECS).  DECE anticipates each program walkthrough will take approximately 45 minutes, not including travel time. This involves:

 

Scheduling

  • Timely outreach to Early Childhood programs for scheduling and confirming walkthrough visits to include calling and/or e-mailing a list of assigned sites.
  • Accurately completing or revising online scheduling form on walkthrough status.
  • Partner with central DECE for timely trouble shooting with unresponsive programs.

 

Conducting Walkthroughs

  • Traveling and arriving to each site on time as scheduled with the program.
  • Partner with each program’s designee on reviewing pre-set checklist of questions while walking the interior and exterior of the Early Childhood site.
  • Responding to questions and offering guidance on outstanding checklist questions.
  • Daily and accurate entering of each site’s walkthrough checklist responses in an online form.
  • Using sound judgement in the need for additional information gathering, such as photos and precise notes for escalation and resolution of program operation challenges.
  • Collaborate with central DECE on reporting and troubleshooting of any open walkthrough issues.

 

Administrative

  • Share and maintain accurate daily calendaring of per-session activities (to include scheduling walkthroughs, travel, site visits, admin time)
  • Completion and timely submission of accurate timesheets
  • Completion and timely submission of TRAC, if applicable

 

Performing other related tasks as needed

 

WORK SCHEDULE:

  • Attend mandatory Program Walkthrough training on July 8th, 2024
  • Availability and ability to commit during summer project timeframe of early July through early August (25-35 hours per week)

 

Hours up to, but not limited to the approximate number of hours listed. Additional hours may be granted upon the approval of the hiring manager.

 

SALARY:

Per Session rates as per the relevant union/organization of the advertised title (Collective Bargaining Agreement). Contingent upon funding availability and programmatic approval.
