You can visits our Citywide Arts Celebrations, check out the Arts Festivals by borough, and you can also see work from each of the arts at the DOE: music, dance, visual arts, theater, and media arts.
New York City is the arts capital of the world, and our borough arts festivals showcase the immense creativity and talent of students from across the city. These festivals bring school communities together to admire the incredible artwork and performances of students from each borough and I join their proud parents in celebrating their achievements.

Borough Arts Festivals
The Borough Arts Festivals are year-end events taking place in each borough to celebrate the talents and creativity of students and their teachers through arts exhibitions and public performances. Borough Arts Directors and support staff collaborate with community superintendents and the Field Support Centers to highlight the local excellence and student achievement in the arts. These festivals engage thousands of student artists, their families and friends and members of the school community.
The All-City High School Music Program
All-City High School Music Program invites NYCDOE public school students in grades 9-12 to receive Saturday music instruction and perform alongside peers from all five boroughs in the following citywide ensembles: Chorus, Concert Band, Jazz Ensemble, Latin Ensemble, Marching Band, and Orchestra.
Salute to Music
The Salute to Music Program invites NYCDOE public school students in Grades 4-8 to receive Saturday music instruction and perform alongside peers in borough-based ensembles. Concert bands are available in every borough. Orchestras rehearse in the Bronx, Queens, and Staten Island and choruses rehearse in Queens and Manhattan. A Citywide Jazz Ensemble welcomes students from all five boroughs.
The NYC Song of Hope Project, produced in partnership with the Songwriters Hall of Fame, engaged students from all boroughs and grade levels in a collaborative citywide songwriting project to create a new NYC anthem, reminding our fellow New Yorkers that NYC can and will come back stronger than ever!
Dance Connects is a virtual dance sequence that includes brief solos choreographed and performed by K-12 dancers with the support of their NYCDOE dance teachers. Dance Connects was generously supported by Jody and John Arnhold / Arnhold Foundation.
Arnhold New Dance Teacher Support
The Arnhold Foundation provides a variety of supports for new dance teachers in their first and second years of teaching in New York City public schools including the Arnhold New Dance Teacher Support Program.
PS Art annually acknowledges outstanding artwork and instruction in grades preK to 12 through a citywide competition, catalogue, and exhibition in partnership with Studio in a School and The Metropolitan Museum of Art.
Dedalus Foundation Portfolio Scholarship Awards Awarding college-bound graduating seniors from New York City public high schools who have shown excellence in fine art $2000 Portfolio Scholarship awards.
Ezra Jack Keats Foundation
Ezra Jack Keats Foundation encourages students in grades 3 - 12 to engage in author and illustrator studies, and to experience the imaginative solutions involved in creating picture books. The annual Ezra Jack Keats Bookmaking Competition is a competition that produces thousands of student-made picture books.
The Diversity Lens Photography Program is a visual arts program honoring middle and high school students' voices through their photographs and writing. Each year a theme is selected. It seems prescient that the theme chosen in the fall of 2019 is Sanctuary. The exhibition of photographs and writing will be displayed at the Tweed Courthouse this fall.
Research Fellowship Program Promoting art history scholarship for high school seniors, connecting them with Museum of Modern Art educators, sharing Studio Institute resources for college-bound students, and granting awards to exemplary researchers; supported by Studio Institute.
School Art League
School Art League Offering high school students Art Career Workshops at The One Club for Creativity, and scholarships, awards, and medals in support of art education, presented annually at The Metropolitan Museum of Art. Brief All IN(clusive) All-City Theatre Teen Ensemble is an innovative & dynamic program for NYC high school student artists from diverse races, ethnicities, gender identities, abilities, and points of view to collaborate, compose, devise, rehearse and perform an original musical.
The Shubert Foundation
The Shubert High School Theater Festival for NYC Schools Celebrating the impact a dedicated theater education on stage and beyond. Our annual Hosted on a Broadway stage, the Festival showcases student learning, focus, collaboration and the diverse theater artistry in our schools.
Shubert/MTI Broadway Junior Musical Theater MS Outreach Program supports NYC public middle schools in the production of a one-hour musical culminating in a final performance on a professional stage.

NYC Public School Film Festival
NYC Public School Film Festival The annual Festival, HONORING THE DIVERSITY OF STUDENT VOICE, is open to all NYC DOE middle and high school students. Produced by the Office of Arts and Special Projects, the Mayor’s Office on Media and Entertainment, and Magic Box Productions, films are selected for the festival by a panel of educators and media professionals
2020 New York Public School Film Festival, Films for Younger Viewers Elementary school families can view a curated age-appropriate selection of 9 films from the festival. Presented by the NYC Mayor's Office of Media and Entertainment, NYC Department of Education and Magic Box Productions, the films explore friendship, bullying, diversity and inclusion awareness, and family connections.
2020 New York Public School Film Festival, Middle and High School Viewers The full festival program features over twenty short films created by middle and high school students from NYC’s five boroughs, including animations, public service announcements, documentaries, experimental films and narratives. The films cover a broad range of themes, including police profiling, sexual harassment, faith, and the pitfalls of social media.
Moving Image Professional Development Series This ongoing series of free annual citywide professional learning events for K-12 teachers includes screenings, sharing of student work, and collaborations with museums as well as interactions with industry professionals and filmmakers. Each workshop series is crafted by the Arts Office and associated cultural partners to engage teachers in developing artistic skills, content knowledge and instructional practice.
