Teacher Assigned – Academic Intervention Services (AIS) Coordinator (K–5, 6–12)
Division of School Leadership
(One-Year Position – Option to Reapply – Commences September 2025)

Eligibility Requirements:

Applicants must possess a valid New York State teaching certificate and a New York City license in one of the following areas. Tenure is preferred:

  • Early Childhood Education (Birth–Grade 2)
  • Childhood Education (Grades 1–6) OR Secondary Education (Grades 7–12)
  • Literacy (Birth–Grade 6 OR Grades 5–12)
  • Students with Disabilities (Birth–Grade 2)
  • Students with Disabilities (Grades 1–6 OR 7–12)
  • Students with Disabilities (K–12)
  • English to Speakers of Other Languages (All Grades), including bilingual
  • Speech and Language Disabilities (All Grades)

Selection Criteria:

  • At least eight years of successful teaching experience, including significant elementary experience or time as a Universal Literacy Coach
  • A minimum of three consecutive years of Satisfactory, Effective, or Highly Effective ratings
  • Strong understanding of teacher development and adult learning
  • Deep knowledge of reading and writing acquisition and development
  • Demonstrated expertise in evidence-based interventions and assessment strategies
  • Success in collaborating on curriculum, instruction, and assessment
  • Proactive in problem-solving and navigating instructional challenges
  • Excellent oral, written, interpersonal, and presentation skills

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of research-based literacy instruction for multilingual learners and students with disabilities
  • Experience using data to inform strategy, instruction, and accountability
  • Familiarity with NYCPS, state, and national ELA standards and the science of reading
  • Ability to support and train staff on screening tools and intervention systems (e.g., Acadience, MAP Growth, iReady)
  • Skill in facilitating meetings and professional learning
  • Experience organizing and managing student-level data and documentation

Duties/Responsibilities:

The AIS Coordinator partners with school leaders and educators to implement interventions and support data-informed instruction.

  • Support schools with dyslexia screening administration and analysis during 2025–2026
  • Facilitate three data review meetings per school per year (based on district plan)
  • Lead grade team meetings to review student growth and plan instruction
  • Organize school-based problem-solving teams for early intervention
  • Deliver professional learning on intervention design, monitoring, and planning
  • Lead intensive intervention team meetings with student-centered, data-based guidance
  • Train staff on data systems (Acadience, MAP Growth, iReady, etc.)
  • Document and maintain student intervention plans and progress data
  • Create and manage electronic folders that track students across years
  • Serve as a resource for selecting appropriate interventions aligned with NYCPS DML and SEO supports
  • Meet regularly with district leadership to review student data and strengthen AIS systems
  • Participate in central PL and case studies to refine AIS practices

Hours:

As per UFT Collective Bargaining Agreement
8:00 AM – 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday

Work Year:

School Year (September 5, 2025 – June 30, 2026), plus five additional days during winter, spring, or summer recess as determined by the supervisor
