Position:

Teacher Assigned – Citywide Intensive Reading Interventionist (K–8)
(One-Year Position – Commences September 2025)
(For Internal and External Candidates)

Location:

Citywide (Assignment by District)

Eligibility Requirements:

Applicants must possess a valid New York State certificate. Tenure is preferred in one of the following:

  • Early Childhood Education (Birth–Grade 2)
  • Childhood Education (Common Branch) (Grades 1–6)
  • Literacy (Birth–Grade 6)
  • Students with Disabilities (Birth–Grade 2)
  • Students with Disabilities (Grades 1–6)
  • English to Speakers of Other Languages (All Grades), including bilingual
  • Speech and Language Disabilities (All Grades)

Selection Criteria:

  • At least eight years of successful teaching experience in elementary or middle schools
  • A minimum of five years of Satisfactory, Effective, or Highly Effective ratings
  • Demonstrated knowledge of reading and writing acquisition and development
  • Proven expertise implementing evidence-based interventions and assessments
  • Success collaborating with staff on intervention implementation and assessment
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills

Preferred:

  • Experience as a NYCPS Literacy Coach, Instructional Coordinator, or Intensive Reading Interventionist
  • Knowledge of research-based approaches to reading and writing instruction
  • Experience delivering evidence-based reading interventions (e.g., Wilson Reading System)
  • Proficiency using Acadience Reading Benchmark and Progress Monitoring tools
  • Ability to administer diagnostic assessments to identify student needs
  • Understanding of the science of reading and research-based intervention practices\
  • Experience conducting or participating in collaborative data meetings
  • Strong ability to analyze, organize, and explain data to inform instruction

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Deliver research-based reading interventions to small groups of at-risk students four times per week
  • Administer weekly progress monitoring to evaluate student response to intervention
  • Analyze universal screening data three times per year with school-level teams
  • Administer diagnostic assessments to students identified as at risk
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to reinforce skills beyond the intervention block
  • Participate in student progress monitoring meetings and present student profiles
  • Work with school and district leadership to support capacity-building in interventions
  • Engage families by communicating student progress and conducting conferences
  • Collaborate with district-based AIS Coordinators
  • Participate in NYCPS-provided professional development
  • Attend mandatory onboarding (dates to be determined)
  • Travel to one or two schools per day based on supervisor assignment

Hours:

As per UFT Collective Bargaining Agreement
8:00 AM – 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday

Work Year:

School Year (September 5, 2025 – June 30, 2026) plus five additional days during winter, spring, or summer recess as determined by supervisor
Position may include up to 30 per session days during Summer 2025
