POSITION:
Teacher Assigned “A” Early Elementary School Computer Science Implementation Specialist
(ONE YEAR POSITION)
LOCATION:
Office of Student Pathways, 110 William Street, New York, NY 10038
Computer Science and 21st Century Skills Team
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:
- Licensed, Appointed and Tenured New York City Department of Education full-time teacher with a minimum of three (3) years of satisfactory (or advance equivalent) rating.
SELECTION CRITERIA:
- Experience delivering computer science education to students in grades PreK-2nd grade.
- Demonstrated knowledge of New York State Computer Science (NYS CS) and Digital Literacy (DF) standards.
- Willingness to travel to different locations throughout NYC five boroughs to perform necessary work duties.
- Demonstrated ability to plan, design, deliver, and evaluate professional learning opportunities.
- Extremely well-organized; able to work under pressure, and meet frequent and sometimes changing deadlines.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail.
- High standards for personal excellence, with the ability to learn quickly and continuously and be responsive to constructive feedback.
- Excellent interpersonal skills in working with education personnel internal and external to NYCPS.
DUTIES/ RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Plan, design, and facilitate professional learning opportunities for teachers in grades PreK-2nd grade that aligns with the New York State Computer Science and Digital Fluency standards.
- Work with the Department of Early Childhood Education to develop lessons and activities that integrate CS concepts and skills into the Creative Curriculum.
- Plan and design computer science learning activities for students, families, and school communities.
- Create and update computer science education lessons that are aligned to the NYS CS & DF standards for implementation as a stand-alone unit or integrated into a specific curriculum.
- Evaluate CS curriculum for quality and rigor.
- Create and manage communication amongst school teachers and administration, district leaders, and Computer Science and 21st Century Skills team.
- Create instructional materials, including pacing guides, PD activities, workbooks, assessments, etc.
- Collaborate with teams and departments within the Office of Student Pathways as well as NYCPS.
- Attend and participate in office-wide, team and departmental meetings.
HOURS:
As per UFT Collective Bargaining Agreement
9:00 AM – 5:00 PM Monday Through Friday
School Year plus five additional days during winter, spring or summer recess pursuant to UFT Contract.
SALARY:
As per UFT Collective Bargaining Agreement
