POSITION:
Teacher Assigned “A” High School Computer Science Implementation Specialist
(ONE YEAR POSITION)
LOCATION:
Office of the First Deputy Chancellor
Office of Student Pathways
Computer Science and 21st Century Skills Team
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:
- Licensed, Appointed and Tenured New York City Department of Education full-time teacher with a minimum of three (3) years of satisfactory (or advance equivalent) rating.
SELECTION CRITERIA:
- Demonstrated knowledge of computer science curricula.
- Demonstrated ability to integrate CS topics to various subject areas.
- Willingness to travel to perform necessary work duties.
- Demonstrated ability to plan, design, deliver, and evaluate professional learning opportunities.
- Extremely well-organized; able to work under pressure, and meet frequent and sometimes changing deadlines.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail.
- High standards for personal excellence, with the ability to learn quickly and continuously and be responsive to constructive feedback.
- Excellent interpersonal skills in working with education personnel internal and external to the NYCPS.
DUTIES/ RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Work with teachers in all five boroughs to support computer science implementation in high schools via various forms including professional learning, office hours, curriculum development and strategies for integration.
- Collaborate with the Senior Director, 6-12 Computer Science Education Implementation to strategize and plan computer science integration into various subject areas in high schools.
- Lead and/or participate in research and ideation to develop innovative products for stakeholders such as toolkits, assessments, training opportunities.
- Plan, design, and facilitate professional learning opportunities in 9-12 computer science, aligned to the CS Education Blueprint (blueprint.cs4all.nyc) and the New York State Computer Science and Digital Fluency Standards.
- Plan and manage computer science learning activities for students, families, and school communities through office signature events and beyond
- Review and explore existing computer science curriculum developed by CS4All and/or other vendors to provide tailored options for various schools to implement computer science education.
- Collaborate with the 6-12 team to develop a framework for curriculum development and evaluation.
- Support city-wide effort to make AP Computer Science Principles courses accessible to a broader population of high school students.
- Conduct outreach and communications with school staff to ensure that all events and curriculum are implemented smoothly from start to finish.
- Assist with operational needs in administration of program efforts, including outreach, registration, and program support.
- Engage with district and Superintendent teams to support citywide computer science implementation.
- Collaborate with other teams across NYCPS’ divisions and the Office of Student Pathways to execute goals.
- Attend and participate in office-wide, team and departmental meetings.
HOURS:
As per UFT Collective Bargaining Agreement
9:00 AM – 5:00 PM Monday Through Friday
School Year plus five additional days during winter, spring or summer recess pursuant to UFT Contract.
SALARY:
As per UFT Collective Bargaining Agreement
