POSITION:
Teacher Assigned “A” Director of Emerging Technologies
(ONE YEAR POSITION)
LOCATION:
Office of Student Pathways
Computer Science and 21st Century Skills Team
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:
Licensed, Appointed and Tenured New York City Department of Education full-time teacher with a minimum of three (3) years of satisfactory (or advance equivalent) rating.

- Demonstrated knowledge of computer science curricula.
- Demonstrated ability to integrate CS topics to various subject areas
- Willingness to travel to perform necessary work duties. Demonstrated ability to plan, design, deliver, and evaluate professional learning opportunities.
- Extremely well organized.
- Flexible, collaborative attitude is needed to effectively function in a fast-paced and highly changeable environment.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail.
- High standards for personal excellence, with the ability to learn quickly and continuously and be responsive to constructive feedback.
- Excellent interpersonal skills in working with education personnel internal and external to the NYCPS.
DUTIES/ RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Collaborates with the Senior Director, 6-12 Computer Science Education Implementation to identify district needs addressing emerging technologies in the contexts of career / college readiness as well as K-12 integration and design support models.
- Collaborates with the Senior Directors on the Computer Science and 21st Century Skills team to ensure clear alignment of emerging technology strategy.
- Work closely with the Computer Science and 21st Century Skills team as well as across the Office of Students Pathways, NYCPS and industries to manage the implementation of emerging technologies initiatives.
- Manages emerging technologies related professional learning opportunities for NYC PS teachers, administrators, and district staff.
- Facilitates the strategic planning and decision-making processes at the school related to developing a vision, goals, programs, processes and structures, needs assessment, capacity-building, and resources to support the implementation of a computer science program appropriate to each school.
- Support execution of budget allocation for duties connected to their role
- Manages relationships with other computer science education partner organizations and other NYCPS offices to support school-based efforts.
- Manages the documentation and dissemination of best practices.
- Manages the collection of data to document implementation and ensures the equitable dissemination of CS teaching across all demographics.
- Implements plans for research and policy analysis on components of program design and impact, in coordination with Pathways research team and external evaluators, including processes for collecting data from program sites, documenting program implementation and best practices, and supporting the preparation of reports to capture program outcomes.
- Works closely with district and school leaders to provide guidance on citywide implementation requirements and ensures alignment with CS4All policies and practices.
- Conducts, facilitates, and manages presentations to a wide audience of stakeholders and NYCPS leadership around program design, policy, and impact, and makes recommendations for changes that affect current policies.
PREFERRED
- Expertise in at least one topic area of computer science (AI, robotics, physical computing, web design, mobile app development, programming, data science, etc.)
- Experience implementing critical race theory, anti-racist education, social justice education and culturally responsive-sustaining education in medium and large organizations.
- Practical experience working with various programming languages.
- Strong belief that computer science education is essential for career connected learning.
- Understanding of the school and central operations of the NYCPS as well as the computer science initiatives underway.
- Understanding of, and experience with, developing deep, effective business and higher education partnerships to support system wide implementation.
- Ability to manage and administer large-scale programs.
HOURS:
As per UFT Collective Bargaining Agreement
9:00 AM – 5:00 PM Monday Through Friday
School Year plus five additional days during winter, spring or summer recess pursuant to UFT Contract.
SALARY:
As per UFT Collective Bargaining Agreement
