    Mayor Bill de Blasio today announced that New York City’s 2017 four-year high school graduation rate is the highest on record – 74.3 percent. The dropout rate is now at its lowest ever – 7.8 percent.

    Chancellor Fariña Visits Afterschool Reading Club

    Today, Schools Chancellor Carmen Fariña visited the Afterschool Reading Club (ARC) - a literacy enrichment program for elementary school students living in shelters - at the Albemarle Family Residence in East Flatbush. The Chancellor and Department of Homeless Services Associate Commissioner Cassandra White made the visit to celebrate World Read Aloud Day and read No, David! to children and families.

    Chancellor Fariña Highlights Passport To Social Studies Curriculum

    Today, Schools Chancellor Carmen Fariña visited Social Studies classes at PS 150 in Queens, one of the 866 elementary and middle schools using the Department of Education's Passport to Social Studies curriculum. The Passport was introduced in the 2016-17 school year and has now been adopted by over 70 percent of the City's elementary and middle schools in its second year.

    New York City district schools will be open tomorrow, Friday, January 5, 2018. All field trips requiring yellow school buses will be cancelled. All other programs and activities will be held as scheduled.

    Due to expected severe weather conditions, all New York City public schools will be closed Thursday, January 4, 2018. After-school programs, adult education, YABC programs, and PSAL activities are also cancelled.
