  • September 5 is a partial day for public school pre-K students! See more important dates at the school calendar.
  • Can your child’s school reach you in an emergency? Make sure the school has your current contact information! Be sure to complete the “Blue Card” form provided by the school and let the front office know about any changes to your address, phone number, or other information.
  • Are your child’s immunizations up to date, and do you have the records you need? Learn more about required vaccines on our Immunization page.
  • Plan to attend Back to School parent activities (contact your parent coordinator to find out more), and learn about Family Empowerment so you can get involved!
  • New to a school? Practice your morning commute before the first day of school. Learn more about transportation at the DOE.

  • Get a copy of the NYC Public School Guidebook by asking your school for a copy in your preferred language, or view online in 10 languages.
  • Talk to your school’s parent coordinator by calling or visiting your school to get your parent coordinator’s contact information. You may also use our Find a School tool to find a link to your school’s website with contact information.

Transportation is provided to all eligible students in public, charter, and non-public schools. Learn What's New this year.

The services available to families vary by school and by each student’s eligibility for those services. Students with special needs can receive school bus service if their Individualized Education Program includes transportation accommodations.

Contact your child’s school to update your address and emergency contact information. We need to have accurate address and contact information for each child we serve; we rely on this information to contact you in emergencies.
